First-ever Raithapitha Award presented at Sanjeevini Godhama
Muniyalu/Hebri: "I grow the rice and vegetables required for me and my family on five acres of land. I do not use any chemicals. Because of this, even at the age of 81, I have the strength to work. Even if you have a small piece of land, grow paddy, produce your own rice, and eat it-you will remain healthy. As Hindus, it is my request that we must preserve and nurture our ancient culture and traditions," said B.K. Devaraya Mittabagilu, a paddy variety conservator.
He was speaking after receiving the Raithapitha Award, established by Dr. Ramakrishna Achar, head of the SKF Elixir Group. Speaking at the event held at Sanjeevini Godhama in Muniyalu, Hebri taluk, he said: "I entered farming after completing PUC. In those days, I used to farm twenty acres and maintained seven pairs of oxen. Now, I have five acres. I grow 70-80 varieties of paddy. I never apply for any awards; people have sought me out to honor me. This award is not just for me, but for paddy cultivation itself."
Dr. Ramakrishna Achar, the founder of the award and head of SKF, said: "In Thailand, a farmer arrives in a Benz car. In Punjab, farming is becoming impossible. Experts say that in 50% of the states in our country, farming will not be possible in the next ten years. Even if crops are grown, there is a possibility that the food will be toxic. Therefore, I established Sanjeevini Godhama to show the younger generation that there is profit in agriculture. We created the Raithapitha Award to pay respect to the farmer. Next year, we intend to present the Raithapitha Award at a Pan-India level."
Dr. Mohan Alva, head of Alva’s Education Foundation, remarked: "Dr. Ramakrishna Achar is doing exemplary work by not only showing that agriculture can be profitable but also creating awareness about farming among children."
Blessings were offered by Adrushya Kadasiddheshwara Swamiji of Siddhagiri (Kaaneri) Math, Kolhapur, Maharashtra, and Nijalingeshwara Swamiji of Nidasosi Duradundeshwara Siddha Sansthana Math, Belagavi.
Social worker Uday Shetty Muniyalu, Savitha Ramakrishna Achar, and Prajwal Achar were present.
