Bengaluru , Whitefiled : A 26-year-old man from West Bengal, who had been suffering from a serious condition for over one and a half years, has been successfully treated at Medicover Hospital, Whitefield, and has now begun a new phase of life.
The patient had been experiencing a condition where his intestine would protrude during bowel movements. Over time, the condition worsened significantly. For the past three months, the rectum remained completely outside the body and had become gangrenous. This led to severe pain, discomfort, and difficulty in carrying out daily activities. He also experienced pain in both lower limbs along with persistent tingling sensations in all four limbs.
Despite seeking treatment at multiple places, there was no improvement, and his condition continued to deteriorate. This not only affected him physically but also took a toll on his mental well-being.
Finally, he traveled from West Bengal to Bengaluru and visited Medicover Hospital, Whitefield, where he consulted Dr. Kaushik Subramanian, Consultant Surgical Gastroenterologist. After detailed evaluation and necessary investigations, he was diagnosed with incarcerated rectal prolapse with gangrenous mucosa, and doctors decided that immediate surgical intervention was required.
During surgery, multiple pressure sores were observed in both gluteal regions, along with gangrenous rectal tissue. The required surgical procedure was successfully performed.
Following the surgery, the patient showed good recovery and is now completely healthy and has returned home.
It was also noted that the patient had been suffering from a neurological condition for the past one and a half years, which contributed to the prolapse during bowel movements. Over the last three months, the condition had become severe. Neurosurgeon Dr. Deepak Arasikere also treated the patient for the neurological issue.
Speaking on the case, Dr. Kaushik Subramanian said, “Neglecting such conditions can lead to life-threatening complications. Timely treatment is extremely important.”
