SWAACH MANGALURU ABHIYAN: RAMAKRISHNA MISSION HOLDS CLEANLINESS DRIVE AT CENTRAL LIBRARY PARK

MANGALURU: The Ramakrishna Mission – Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan conducted its monthly cleanliness drive for September 2026 at the Central Library Park in Kadri Mallikatte.

The event was jointly flagged off by Mandar Kale, General Manager of MRPL-ONGC, and Shashikala, Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) of Biligiri Ranganathaswamy (B.R. Hills) Grama Panchayat. Key dignitaries, including Dr. Jnaneshwar Pai Maroor, Principal of Nitte Institute of Professional Education, and Indian Army Ex-Serviceman Gopinath Rao, were present to encourage the volunteers.

Dignitaries Emphasize Civic Responsibility

Addressing the gathering, Mandar Kale commended the volunteers' sustained commitment to civic responsibility and reiterated MRPL-ONGC's ongoing support for the initiative under its Environmental Social Responsibility (ESR) framework.

Highlighting a special aspect of the event, PDO Shashikala shared that a delegation from the B.R. Hills Grama Panchayat traveled to Mangaluru specifically to study the Abhiyan’s operational model. She expressed intent to replicate the Ramakrishna Mission's systematic waste management and community-driven practices in B.R. Hills. Dr. Maroor urged student volunteers to integrate environmental conservation into their daily lives rather than treating it as a symbolic exercise.

Multi-Pronged Field Operations

Guided by senior volunteers, students and faculty from multiple educational institutes executed targeted cleaning tasks across the park premises:

Outer Perimeter & Footpaths: Volunteers from the Nitte Institute of Professional Education cleared accumulated garbage, dry foliage, construction debris, and illegal banners from the library’s exterior and adjacent walkways.

Park Grounds: A team from the Nitte Institute of Hospitality removed weeds, trimmed overgrown grass, and cleared walking paths as well as the children's play area.

Kadri Gopalnath Memorial: Students from the Srinivasa Institute of Aviation scrubbed moss and algae off the memorial dedicated to the legendary saxophonist. Using bleaching powder and water tankers, the team thoroughly sanitized the monument and restored its wall fountain.

The drive was organized in association with the Swachh Mangaluru Prathishtana and supported by MRPL-ONGC.
