No Honorary Doctorate, Live on YouTube, Facebook
Mangalore: The 39th convocation of the Mangalore University will be held on April 10 (Saturday) at 11:00 am at Mangala Auditorium on the campus. Infosys Foundation Chairperson Padmashree Dr. Sudha Murthy will deliver the convocation address online.
Addressing the media persons at Ravindra Kalabhavana of University College Mangaluru on Thursday, Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof. P Subrahmanya Yadapadithaya said that the Chancellor (Governor) and Pro-Chancellor (Minister for Higher Education) will not take part and the event and there will be strict adherence to Covid-19 guidelines. The program will be live via YouTube and Facebook.
The Vice-Chancellor made it clear that this time no one is being awarded an honorary doctorate. Ph.D. recipients, gold medallists, and first-rank students will receive their degree in presence. Cash prizes and certificates to the students who have applied will be sent by postage within a week.
At the same time, Registrar(I/C) Prof. P L Dharma said that 117 persons, including 14 foreigners, will be awarded Ph.D. degrees. 10 will be awarded Gold Medal and out of the 188 rankings, 69 students who have achieved the first rank will receive certificates on the occasion. In various exams, out of 43,743 students, 33,806 (77.28%) have passed. Girls outperformed boys with a 62.62% pass percentage.
Responding to a question, he said the university had decided to use the new software for the examination process, which has created a little bit of problem due to repeated change in the code of repeaters. There is no reason to worry that processes are currently underway in manual mode. The future of the software depends on its performance, he added.
The action was taken at VC level
The case of CDC Director Prof. M. Jayashankar is under investigation and action has been taken against him at Vice Chancellor's level, Prof. P S Yadapadithaya said. The notice issued by the university was answered and it will be discussed at the syndicate meeting on April 9. He has been appointed as the Deputy Director of the International Foreign Students’ Cell of the university until further orders, he said.
Mangalore University Finance Officer Dr. B Narayana, Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Board Director Prof. K.S Jayappa, University College Principal Dr. Anasuya Rai, University Employment Information and Guidance Bureau (UEIGB) Head Dr. Preethi Keerthi D'Souza were present among others.
