Mangalore: National Sports Day, the birth anniversary of Indian hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand, was celebrated by the Physical Education Department and Sports Association of the University College Mangaluru in virtual mode on Saturday.
In his keynote address Mysore University former physical director Dr. Krishna C defined sports as an excellent sports-cultural activity that promotes involvement and responsibility among people. Resource Person Mangalore Physical Education Department Chairman, Director Dr. Gerald Santosh D'Souza recalled sports stars who made India proud. “Sports is the index of Human Quality. Students and parents need to know why sports is necessary for the body,” he added.
In her presidential address, Principal Dr. Anasuya Rai, opined that the story of Major Dhyan Chand should be an eye-opener for youth today. Diya and Nachiketh, who have a black belt in Karate, showcased their skills. College alumni Dr. Manoj and Ashwath shared their experience.
University College Mangaluru Physical Education Director Dr. Keshava Murthy K, Deputy Director Altaf Saab introduced the guests. MC Chelsea Zena, while Prajwal, Sushravya K cooperated.
