Panambur, Jan 26: The New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) celebrated the 77th Republic Day of India with patriotic fervour at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Stadium, Panambur, on Monday.
Capt. Manoj Joshi, Deputy Conservator and Deputy Chairman (In-Charge), NMPA, was the Chief Guest for the celebrations, held in the presence of senior officers, Heads of Departments, employees, members of the Board, CISF personnel, staff members, and school students.
The programme began with the garlanding of the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, and U. S. Mallya, followed by the unfurling of the National Flag by the Chief Guest. Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, Panambur, rendered the National Anthem.
A ceremonial march past was presented by contingents of CISF personnel, NMPA Fire Service, private security staff, and students from Kendriya Vidyalaya and NMPA English Medium School, which was inspected by the Chief Guest. To mark the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, a special collective rendition of the National Song was organised.
Addressing the gathering, Capt. Manoj Joshi highlighted the significance of Republic Day, commemorating the adoption of the Constitution of India and the nation’s democratic journey. He emphasised that nation-building is a collective responsibility and called upon citizens to actively contribute to governance and development.
He drew examples from history and technology to stress how small lapses in responsibility can lead to far-reaching consequences, underscoring the need for foresight, accountability, and dedication. He urged officers and employees to adopt a future-oriented approach, focusing on infrastructure planning and capacity building to support long-term growth.
Referring to NMPA’s recent achievement of crossing 40 million metric tonnes of cargo handling, he congratulated the workforce and encouraged them to strive for higher performance through innovation, better planning, and teamwork. He also invited stakeholders to offer suggestions to strengthen systems in line with India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
As part of the celebrations, citations and cash awards were presented to meritorious students from displaced communities for academic excellence, and to NMPA employees, officers, CISF personnel, police personnel, and Home Guards for exemplary service.
The celebrations also featured cultural performances by students from D.K. Zilla Panchayat Higher Primary School, NMPA English Medium High School, and Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, Panambur. Participation prizes were distributed to encourage young performers.
Demonstrations by the CISF showcasing discipline, preparedness, and emergency response capabilities were another highlight of the event.
The programme concluded with the plantation of saplings, reaffirming NMPA’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
