The National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, will host SPICMACAY VIRASAT’26, a five-day cultural festival celebrating India’s classical music, dance, and traditional art forms, from February 4 to 8, 2026, at the Silver Jubilee Auditorium (SJA) on the NITK campus. The festival is open to the public and is expected to attract over 1,000 attendees across five days.
The inaugural ceremony will be held on February 4 at 5:30 PM. Shri Raghavendra S. Bhat, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Karnataka Bank Ltd., will attend as the Chief Guest, while Padma Shri awardee Pandit M. Venkatesh Kumar, renowned Hindustani classical vocalist, will be the Special Guest.
The programme will be presided over by Prof. B. Ravi, Director, NITK, in the presence of institute functionaries, faculty members, staff, and students. Following the inauguration, Pandit M. Venkatesh Kumar will present a Hindustani vocal concert, marking the commencement of the festival.
Over five evenings, VIRASAT’26 will feature performances by eminent artistes representing Hindustani and Carnatic classical music, Bharatanatyam, and Kuchipudi. In addition, daytime workshops will be conducted for school and college students, providing hands-on exposure to India’s living cultural traditions.
Speaking about the festival, Prof. Govinda Raj M, Dean of Students’ Welfare, NITK, said that VIRASAT aims to revive India’s rich cultural heritage and make it accessible to people of all age groups, including schoolchildren, college youth, families, and senior citizens.
About SPICMACAY
The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPICMACAY) is a non-profit organisation founded by Dr. Kiran Seth and has been promoting India’s cultural heritage for the past 49 years. With chapters in premier institutions in India and abroad—including IISc, IITs, NITs, and IISERs—SPICMACAY has established a wide network dedicated to preserving and propagating Indian classical music, dance, folk traditions, and crafts.
SPICMACAY NITK, part of the Mangalore Chapter, is a student-led initiative supported by the NITK administration. It continues to further SPICMACAY’s mission by organising cultural programmes and workshops that foster appreciation for traditional art forms among youth and the wider community.
