
Bengaluru: India and Nepal’s long-standing cultural, religious, and historical ties were highlighted at a special felicitation programme held in Bengaluru following the swearing-in of Shri Balendra Shah as the Prime Minister of Nepal. An alumnus of the Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT), Shah’s achievement was celebrated by the Indian Nepalese community and academic fraternity.
Addressing the gathering, Madhav Raj Khadayat, representative of the Indian Nepalese community, said the occasion reflected the deep-rooted relationship between the two nations. He noted that NMIT had played a crucial role in shaping Shah’s career by not only imparting technical knowledge but also fostering leadership qualities.
Shri Balendra Shah completed his M.Tech in Structural Engineering from NMIT between 2016 and 2018, graduating with distinction. To mark his elevation to the highest office in Nepal, a felicitation event was organised by Nepalese in Bangalore (NIB) in association with philanthropist Tej Narayan Shah. The programme recognised the institution’s contribution in providing a strong academic foundation, research exposure, and a conducive environment for holistic development.
Smt. Sujata Shah Harish, elder sister of the Prime Minister, was present at the event. The Nepalese community honoured Dr. H.C. Nagaraj, Principal of NMIT; Shreyas, mentor to Shah; Dr. Mahesh, his project guide; and other faculty members of the Civil Engineering department.
Expressing pride in the achievement of the institute’s alumnus, Dr. H.C. Nagaraj said Shah’s success in leading a nation rich in cultural heritage and resources was a matter of great honour for the institution.
Among those present were Arjun Thapa, Nisha Jha, and Sunita Prasad from Nepalese in Bangalore; Rohit Punja, Trustee of Nitte Education Trust; Dr. Sandeep Shastri, Vice President of Nitte (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru campus; along with Nepali students and faculty members.
